What is the use of serving God ? Malachi 3 : 13 - 15

The post-exilic community forgot the fact that God is the creator and sustainer of all.

And they said " It is futile to serve God ". " What we gain by carrying out his requirements and going about like mourners before the Lord Almighty? "

In this verses we see " serve the Lord ", " carrying out his requirements ", and " before the Lord ". All of these points out their faith and devotion to God but now they say these are futile. Though this question seems genuine yet sounds commercial, because they were the recipients of God's covenantal blessing for generations.

One of the exiles in Babylon commends on serving God? " Those who lead many to righteousness will shine like the stars for ever and ever " ( Daniel 12 : 3 ). " How

beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news " ( Isaiah 52 : 7 ).
